Some athletes earn recognition through statistics. Others leave a legacy through the way they inspire teammates, competitors, and the next generation. Jackie (Edwards) Earle has done both.
In 2025, Jackie was inducted into the Ventura County USBC Hall of Fame, a well-deserved honor recognizing decades of excellence on the lanes and her lasting impact on the sport of bowling.

From an early age, it was clear Jackie was something special. At just 13 years old, she bowled her first perfect 300 game, becoming one of the youngest girls in the country to accomplish the feat. That achievement even caught national attention, with CBS and ABC News featuring her remarkable story and the extraordinary bowling family she came from. Jackie, along with her parents, became only the second family in bowling history to have a father, mother, and daughter each bowl a perfect game.

But that was only the beginning.
As a junior bowler, Jackie quickly established herself as one of the nation's best. She captured 24 Junior Amateur Tour (JAT) titles, earned multiple scholarships, and represented the United States as a two-time Junior Team USA member before going on to become a three-time Team USA member.
Throughout her international career, Jackie helped bring home an incredible 14 gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals while proudly representing her country. She also competed collegiately for California State University, Fresno, where she continued to demonstrate the dedication and competitive drive that defined her bowling career.
Her numbers speak for themselves: 11 career perfect 300 games (eight as a junior and three as an adult), a high series of 812, and current league averages approaching 230. Yet statistics only tell part of her story.
As you'll see in the video below, those who bowled alongside Jackie (including multiple national and/or world champion pro bowlers: Missy Parkin, Diana Asbaty, and Robert Smith aka “Maximum Bob”) remember far more than her scores.
Former teammates describe a fierce competitor who pushed everyone around her to become better. They remember international competitions, Team USA training camps, countless victories, and even the nervous moments that became lifelong memories. Whether competing for Team USA or on the Junior Amateur Tour, Jackie earned the admiration and respect of some of bowling's most accomplished athletes.
David Yamuchi, speaking on behalf of the Junior Amateur Tour, described Jackie as a "dominating force on the lanes," praising her elite timing, accuracy, and fundamentally sound game. More importantly, he noted that she embodied everything the JAT strives to develop in young bowlers.
The admiration extends far beyond national competition. Friends, fellow bowlers, and members of the Ventura County bowling community consistently describe Jackie not only as an exceptional athlete but as an exceptional person—someone whose sportsmanship, dedication, and love of the game have inspired those around her for decades.
One of the most meaningful moments in the video tribute below comes full circle. Side-by-side footage from 2024 and 2025 showing Jackie finishing up two strings of 12 strikes, perfect 300 games, reminding everyone that the talent and passion that made her a champion are still very much alive today.
The Ventura County USBC Hall of Fame recognizes individuals whose accomplishments have made a lasting impact on bowling in our community. Jackie (Edwards) Earle's career has done exactly that.
Congratulations, Jackie, on this well-earned honor. Your accomplishments, your competitive spirit, and the example you've set for generations of bowlers have made an indelible mark on Ventura County bowling and beyond.

As Junior Program Director at Buena Lanes, Art has built a long lasting legacy that continues to shape the future of the sport in Ventura County.
In 1991, when Art Leseberg stepped into the role of Junior Program Director at Buena Lanes, youth bowling there had been dormant for years. What followed was not just a revival. It was the beginning of a lasting legacy that continues to shape the future of the sport in Ventura County.
From the start, Art brought an unwavering dedication to building opportunities for young bowlers. Through his leadership, youth leagues and tournaments didn’t just return; they flourished. His efforts helped establish a vibrant, welcoming environment where bowlers of all ages and abilities could learn, grow, and compete. Today, he remains instrumental in organizing successful youth leagues and tournaments across the county, creating pathways for participation at every level.

One of Art’s most remarkable accomplishments is his stewardship of a youth league that has been running continuously since 1977, the longest-tenured league in the county.

Over the decades, countless young athletes have rolled their first frames in that league, many of whom have gone on to compete locally, nationally, in college programs, and even at the professional level. Those successes are a testament not only to the talent of the bowlers, but to the foundation Art helped build.
What truly sets Art apart is his ability to attract and retain young bowlers of all skill levels. Beginners find patience and encouragement; advanced bowlers find challenge and guidance. Art generously volunteers his time to mentor youth bowlers, always focused on helping them develop both as athletes and as individuals. His passion for bowling is matched by his commitment to the young people who play the game.

That passion has inspired a strong sense of community among youth bowlers and their families. Under Art’s leadership, bowling has become more than a sport. It’s a place where friendships form, confidence grows, and families come together. He is deeply committed to giving young bowlers the best possible opportunity to succeed, on the lanes and beyond.
Art Leeseberg’s contributions to youth bowling are truly invaluable. His impact is felt not only in the achievements of individual bowlers, but in the enduring strength of the youth bowling community throughout Ventura County. His story is a powerful reminder of why investing time, care, and energy into young athletes matters. The future of our sport depends on it.

A Legacy Built on Power, Humility, and Giving Back
Mark French
Some bowlers are remembered for their scores. Others for how they make the people around them better. Mark French is firmly in both camps—and that rare combination is exactly why his induction into the VCUSBC Hall of Fame feels not only earned, but inevitable.
Mark’s bowling résumé speaks volumes. His greatest competitive achievement—being named a 2004 Junior Team USA Member—placed him among the very best young bowlers in the country. Around the same time, he held the record for most 800 series by a junior bowler for numerous years, a testament to both his consistency and his extraordinary talent. Add to that dozens of 300 games and 800 series across leagues and tournaments, and you begin to understand the scale of his impact.
What truly set Mark apart, though, was how he achieved those results. He has long been known for one of the most powerful strike balls and rev rates in the region. When locked in and competing, Mark was simply electric to watch—capable of taking over a tournament in a matter of frames. Competitors respected him. Spectators leaned in when he stepped on the approach.
Yet despite the power and the accolades, Mark has always carried himself with uncommon humility. Widely regarded as one of the nicest competitors you’ll ever meet, his bowling knowledge runs deep, and he’s always willing to share. Whether it’s breaking down lane play, ball motion, or mental approach, Mark gives freely of his time and insight, asking nothing in return. That generosity has helped shape countless bowlers throughout Ventura County.

Mark’s journey began right here as a Ventura County junior bowler, where he racked up wins across JATs, JSTs, JBTs, and JCTs, building a reputation that would follow him well beyond youth competition. Today, his name is recognized across the entire county—not just for what he accomplished on the lanes, but for the example he set along the way.
As life has evolved, so has Mark. His competitive pace may have slowed as he embraced his most important roles yet: being an incredible father to his son, Walker, and a devoted husband to his wife, Cassie. That same dedication and integrity he brought to bowling now define him off the lanes as well.
Inducting Mark French into the VCUSBC Hall of Fame honors more than a record book. It celebrates a career built on excellence, sportsmanship, and service to the bowling community. His legacy is powerful, lasting, and deeply rooted in Ventura County—and it will continue to inspire future generations of bowlers for years to come.

Rolling Forward: How Diane Leseberg Shaped Generations of Youth Bowlers
In 1991, Diane Leseberg took on the role of Junior Program Director at Buena Lanes, revitalizing a program that had been dormant for many years. Through her unwavering dedication and commitment, she played a pivotal role in the growth and development of youth bowling throughout the region. Diane has been instrumental in organizing and sustaining successful youth leagues and tournaments across the county.
One of her most remarkable achievements is maintaining a youth league that has operated continuously since 1977, making it the longest-tenured youth league in the county. Over the years, countless bowlers who began their journeys in Diane’s programs have gone on to compete at the local, national, collegiate, and professional levels.
Diane is in her element, at the VCUSBC County Youth tournament.
Diane’s passion for the sport has fostered a strong sense of community among young bowlers and their families. She is deeply committed to ensuring that youth bowlers are given the support, mentorship, and opportunities they need to succeed both on and off the lanes. Her contributions to youth bowling have been invaluable, leaving a lasting legacy not only in the sport, but throughout Ventura County.
Diane Leseberg’s example serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of investing in the future of bowling.

2025 VCUSBC Hall of Fame Inductee, Mike Svec
In 2025, the VCUSBC Board of Directors inducted 5 talented and influential members into the VCUSBC Hall of Fame. Each inductee will be featured in the 805 Pin Press blog. We begin with Mike Svec!
Mike Svec’s induction into the VCUSBC Hall of Fame is a well-earned recognition of more than three decades of service to Ventura County bowling. A pro shop operator for 31 years, Mike has been the driving force behind Mike’s Pro Shop, which has called three different bowling centers home over the years and is currently located at Harley’s Camarillo Bowl. Through every transition, his commitment to bowlers and to the game has remained constant.
Beyond the pro shop, Mike has been a cornerstone of the local bowling community as a longtime league president and league secretary, running both winter and summer leagues for many years. His leadership, organization, and dedication have helped keep leagues thriving and welcoming for bowlers of all skill levels.
Known for his friendly demeanor and deep knowledge of the sport, Mike is always willing to help, whether someone is picking up a bowling ball for the first time or fine-tuning their game after decades on the lanes. His passion for bowling and genuine care for people have left a lasting impact throughout Ventura County. Nominated for the Hall of Fame by Doug Addison, Mike Svec’s legacy is one of service, mentorship, and an unwavering love for the sport of bowling.

Are you a league bowler in Ventura County? Do you like to compete in tournaments? Are you curious about the happenings of Ventura County bowling? If so, this blog is for you! The Ventura County USBC (VCUSBC) Board of Directors is excited to pass along fun stories and accomplishments about Ventura County lanes, leagues, and people.
As of late 2025, VCUSBC is comprised of 1,765 individual members (adult and youth) who bowl in at least one of 38 leagues. In those leagues, there are an impressive 614 teams made up of a total of 2,348 players, with many bowlers belonging to more than one team.
